FAQ

  • Where is the band from?

Martino started the band in his Finsbury Park bedroom in 2016. Since then the band has made it’s home in south London and has been playing live all around the city since 2017.

  • Who writes the songs?

Martino originally started the band as his singer-songwriter project. The first 4 albums were all written, recorded and played by himself but this has been changing as time went on. He is still the songwriter and acts as the bandleader but since the 2019 album One More Time With Feeling, other people have been involved in the recording process.

  • Who are your influences?

We have always been greatly inspired by DIY and indie acts. While Martino grew up on a steady dose of the usual suspects (Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and Tom Waits) but for the past 10 years he’s really been influenced by the more modern indie scene. Particularly with self-recording and homegrown acts such as Car Seat Headrest, Neutral Milk Hotel, Frankie Cosmos, Deerhunter and Sufjan Stevens.

  • Who is in the band?

Currently we play live as a five piece. Martino Gasparrini on vocals and guitar, Rosa Fisher on violin, Ralph Heseltine on bass, Geroge Harvey on guitar and Lea Francis on drums.

  • What music has been released?

To date there are 13 albums. The first ones are really quite lofi and arguably amateurish since at the time Martino hadn’t the faintest idea of what he was doing. With every passing release things have gotten more polished. While the records still have a very homespun indie feel, they are way more engaging than they have ever been. To date there are also a total of 12 demo EPs found on their other bandcamp page called Parachute Turds. You can also check the band’s bandcamp page to hear and listen to all the albums the group has released.

  • Favourite albums?

To many to count honestly but right now the first off the top of my head: In The Aeroplane Over The Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel, Halcyon Digest - Deerhunter, Blonde - Frank Ocean, On The Beach - Neil Young, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We Are Gone? - The Unicorns, No Dogs Allowed - Sidney Gish, Teens of Denial - Car Seat Headrest, Zenthropy - Frankie Cosmos, Court an Spark- Joni Mitchell, Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen, Pink Moon - Nick Drake, Exile On Main Street - The Rolling Stones, The Band - The Band, Remain In Light - Talking Heads.

  • Why the name Parachute Words?

The name has been taken from a lyric in a song from The Robot Ate Me called The Red-Haired Girl
